Freyja Rain is an American author and creator from rural Georgia, known for blending emotional truth, imagination, and a quiet undercurrent of magic into every story she writes. Her work spans children’s literature, narrative nonfiction, and contemporary fiction, and her voice remains steady across every project—honest, human, and rooted deeply in lived experience. Her stories carry a rare mix of heart, grit, and hope.
Her writing is shaped by the people who built her world and the losses that reshaped it. Her daughter Megan—whose passing changed the direction of her life—remains one of the strongest sources of meaning, purpose, and emotional depth in her work. Freyja writes with her memory at the center: the lessons grief forces on you, the strength survival demands, and the way love refuses to disappear. Her granddaughter Laken, equal parts mischief and magic, inspires much of the wonder in her children’s stories and artwork.
Her children’s titles include The Little Witch’s Big Adventure series—The Little Witch’s Big Adventure, The Great Pond Rescue, and The Chicken Coop Mystery. She is also developing The Laken Series, a growing collection of seasonal and holiday-themed books set to release in the future. These stories offer young readers a world where kindness matters, bravery counts, and magic lives in ordinary places.
Her adult works explore deeper emotional landscapes. Still Here: Beneath the Bruises of Chronic Illness and The Anatomy of Survival blend narrative storytelling, real-life insight, and psychological depth to examine trauma, chronic illness, identity, and the ongoing work of rebuilding a life from the inside out. Her upcoming gothic thriller, The Widow’s Ledger, set in the haunting town of Deliverance, weaves mystery, grief, and buried truths into a layered and atmospheric narrative.
Outside of writing, Freyja is a hands-on creator: resin artist, designer, mentor, and the kind of person who turns ideas into tangible things. All her creative work lives under Painfully Creative, her multidisciplinary brand dedicated to art and storytelling that make people feel understood and less alone. Little Witch Publications, a branch of the Painfully Creative umbrella, houses her children’s books and family-centered creative projects.
When she isn’t building worlds on the page, she’s with her family—her husband, her children, and Laken, the spark behind so much of her magic. Freyja writes to honor the people she loves, to give voice to the battles she’s survived, and to remind readers that resilience is real and there is always a way forward, even when the path ahead feels unfamiliar.

Books for Young Readers
Books for Adults
Learn what it means to be “Still Here” as Freyja Rain speaks with raw honesty about the hidden war of chronic pain, disability, and medical gaslighting. With unfiltered truth, she explores the loneliness of being dismissed by doctors, the guilt of depending on others, and the courage it takes to wake up every morning and try again. This book isn’t a pity story—it’s a lifeline for anyone who’s ever been told “it’s all in your head.” It’s about reclaiming your dignity, rebuilding your identity, and learning to live fully in a body that won’t play by the rules.
I am a nonfiction author focused on lived experience, advocacy, and long-form narrative work that examines survival, justice, and the human cost of institutional failure. My writing centers on truth-telling, clarity, and emotional honesty without sensationalism.
This portfolio includes published works, selected excerpts, advocacy writing, and other works currently in progress.

Essays and Advocacy Writing
My essays and advocacy writing focus on grief, justice, mental health, and the lived reality behind public silence. This work is grounded in personal experience while maintaining a clear, ethical approach to public-facing storytelling.
These pieces are written for broad audiences and emphasize clarity, responsibility, and respect for those directly impacted. Rather than offering resolution, the writing centers truth, endurance, and the long-term consequences of loss and institutional failure.
Common themes include:
- Grief that does not follow a timeline
- Advocacy for victims and surviving families
- Mental health, chronic stress, and identity
- Navigating systems that resist accountability
